Kyle and his wife had been looking forward to retirement for years. Living in Houston, Kyle worked as an engineer for NASA. He was always ahead of the curve when it came to understanding new technology, and he earned a salary that allowed them a comfortable lifestyle along the Gulf Coast.
As retirement age approached, neither wanted to do the “traditional” thing of retiring in Florida or Arizona. They both craved more adventure and freedom than that. But Kyle’s wife passed away before they could live that dream, and now Kyle faces making his retirement decisions on his own.
Seeking Adventure Under New Circumstances
To honor his wife’s memory, Kyle sought a more adventurous retirement that would be compatible with the freedom he desired. He discovered Panama could be a great place to live in retirement, but he thought it was too far away from his children and grandchildren. However, after speaking with a company that provides tours of eco-friendly luxury homes, Kyle decided to take a tour.
Visiting Panama Opens Eyes
The first thing Kyle found out was that the flight from Houston to Panama was only four and a half hours. That’s less time than it takes to fly from New York to Los Angeles. Kyle was surprised to find the modern amenities found in Panama’s eco-friendly homes. He toured self-sustainable homes, using local sources of water and solar power for electricity.
Eco-Friendly and Sustainable
The tropical climate also allowed many eco-friendly communities to produce their own food in gardens and on farms. Many homes had smart technology that made them as modern as any home in the United States. This eco-friendly living provided luxury that Kyle could obtain by combining his American-earned dollars with Panama’s lower cost of living. Kyle realized he would have the freedom to live wherever and however he pleased in Panama.
The Carnival!
Kyle’s visit to Panama coincided with the Carnaval de Las Tablas. The streets filled with revelers enjoying food and drinks in a color-filled and lively celebration. Kyle took advantage of his fortunate timing and attended the festival. He met other retirees who had decided to retire in Panama. They told him about the wonderful sense of community that expats have in Panama, not only with each other but also with the locals. There is support for newcomers to learn how to live their best lives when they retire in Panama. Kyle was confident he would be free to find people who shared his interests. He would never be lonely in Panama.
You Can’t Beat the Natural Beauty of Panama
Before leaving Panama, Kyle had to experience Panama’s legendary natural beauty. He got a taste of Panama’s beautiful beaches, lush jungles, and varied wildlife. With the freedom to explore this cornucopia of natural beauty further, the desire to return to Panama burned inside Kyle as soon as he left.
